Business Development Manager - Building / Construction – Northampton

A reputable regional building main contractor, with a longstanding history and a strong brand in the industry.
ROLE:
Our client is recruiting for a Business Development Manager to complement and support their strong pre-construction team. The role will be based in their Northampton office, covering the working area of that office from south Leicestershire down to Oxfordshire/Watford and from Birmingham across to the A1.
For this role you will need to be ambitious, self-motivated and able to work both independently and within a team of like-minded individuals. You will have excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, and you will need to hold a clean driving license and be prepared to travel throughout the operating area.
The role will ideally suit someone from a marketing or business development or bid leading background, not necessarily from a main contractor background, perhaps from a consultancy or subcontractor’s background.
DUTIES
As Business Development Manager your duties will include:
- This is an office based role, with the requirement to go out and meet clients and consultants. You will be working alongside and with the existing Business Development Team, helping to create initial marketing responses, identify leads on new projects and securing tendering opportunities. However, there will be times when it is essential to meet and liaise with prospective clients and consultants, at offices and different networking events. Reaching out to people and networking is an essential part of the role. Also being able to use the internet to research, source and compile information and share with the wider team.
- Developing and maintaining solid business relationships with new and existing key Clients, Consultant/ Designers, with the aim of obtaining new business
- Undertaking thorough research on potential growth areas to enable shaping of the developing Northampton/Cambridge business.
- Researching Notices, Portals (Ted and My Tenders), sales leads, websites, planning applications and the like, in order to identify new leads.
- Designing presentations and company brochures tailored to individual client requirements
- Updating the company web-enabled databases so that information can be seen and shared throughout the Group.
- Liaison with other offices, sharing information and promoting the Group and helping produce brochures to use when engaging prospective clients.
- Working on the preparation/writing of PQQ’s and tender bids, helping write bid responses as part of the wider preconstruction team.
REQUIREMENTS:
To be considered for this Business Development Manager vacancy you will likely have the following attributes:
- Previous employment as a Business Development Manager, Business Development Executive, Business Development Coordinator, Marketing Manager or similar.
- Ideally Previous Main Contractor employment, alternatively candidates with previous employment with Subcontractors or Consultancies will also be considered.
-Good organisation skills and work ethic
-Computer skills – need to be proficient on Microsoft Office packages (preferably with some experience of the 2010 suite – Word, Excel, Outlook). Any experience with ‘Adobe InDesign’ would be beneficial but not essential as full in-house training will be provided.
-Excellent spoken and written English.
-A good, clear telephone manner is essential as there will be client interface during the course of the daily works, including online meetings.
-A good ‘team player’, able to work independently and as part of a team.
-A clean driving license, as whilst the role if based in the Northampton office, there will be a need to travel to meet clients.
