BID MANAGER - BUILDING / CONSTRUCTION

(WEST YORKSHIRE OFFICE / REMOTE HOME WORKING SPLIT)

Opportunity to join a leading Tier 1 building main contactor based in West Yorkshire, near Leeds. Also includes mix of remote working.

Opportunity to play a key role bidding for regional public and private sector projects including Education, Healthcare, Commercial, PRS and Student Accommodation schemes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full ownership of the allocated bid – high standard compelling proposal/ offer delivered on time;
  • Responsible and accountable for the production of the tender and facilitating a positive efficient team performance;
  • Provide leadership, energy and enthusiasm on the bid;
  • Main “Point of Contact” with Client/Design Team;
  • Innovative to create the winning operational and/or commercial edge;
  • Understand and align bid strategy with key stakeholders, client drivers and customer needs;
  • Agree key and adequate tender resources (staff) and bid requirements with the respective Estimating Manager, Pre-Construction Manager, Design & Planning Manager, and Regional Directors;
  • Develop bid programmes, allocate all tender deliverables, bid and answer plans and dates required – ensure all of the team understands their deliverables and by when;
  • Continual/ weekly checking/ challenging of the bid process/ progress with the whole bid team – ensuring best practice and deadlines are maintained;
  • Develop, agree and approve answer plans with the rest of the bid team;
  • Agree specific roles and responsibilities for each team member on the bid;
  • Organise, chair, tender launch, internal/external mid tender, regional settlement and Group adjudications;
  • Organise commercial and operational peer reviews if appropriate;
  • Organise mid-bid or red team reviews;
  • Organise and chair weekly bid reviews;
  • Continue as main point of contact for client if bid is successful until contract/post contract if required;
  • Build relationships with client/design team/key stakeholders during bid period;
  • Writing, editing and proofing bid submission responses using persuasive and positive language;
  • Reading and understanding framework or tender submission documents;
  • Research and write highly specific responses which generally are technical / construction based and client focused in nature;
  • Being able to communicate effectively with other staff involved with the bid;
  • Able to work to tight deadlines whilst producing the highest standard of work;
  • Willing to interact with the team and offer suggestions, innovation and ways to continuously drive improvement;
  • Understand and align bid strategy with key stakeholders, client drivers and customer needs
  • Carry out research (web based or otherwise) on clients and projects to aid and tailor the written responses;
  • Attend site visits if necessary to aid responses;;
  • Liaison with Business Development for key bid intelligence and win themes;
  • Researching and collating regional best practice in terms of site delivery, innovation, social value and client testimonials to be utilised in bid submissions;
  • Take ownership for gathering and drafting tender clarifications;
  • Coordinate risk and opportunity reviews to make sure our bids are robust, thorough but generate and engaging and efficient offer appropriate for the risk-profile of the scheme
  • Liaising with internal colleagues, estimating, planning, commercial, project management, bid writing, submissions co-ordinator and graphic designer and the like to ensure a coordinated approach to the bid submission;
  • Ensure bid feedback and debriefs are collated, analysed and fed back into future tenders to maintain an environment of continual improvement;
  • Assist in preparing and attending post tender interviews and presentations where necessary.

Requirements: 

To be considered for this Bid Manager vacancy you will likely have the following attributes:

- You Strive for High Quality and take pride in your work.
- Previous employment as a Bid Writer, Bid Manager, Proposals Manager, Proposals Engineer, Submissions Manager, Tender Writer, Bid Author or Bid Coordinator.
- Ideally Previous Main Contractor employment, alternatively candidates with previous employer with Subcontractors and Consultancies will also be considered.

- Ideally previously work on building sector projects but not essential.

- Preferably degree qualified in a subject with a high focus on creating high quality written work

- Exceptional writing, editing, and copy-writing skills

- Excellent English language (vocabulary), grammar and communication skills

- Adaptable to deal with changing project requirements and deadlines

- Familiarity with Microsoft and other desktop publishing software packages

- A naturally inquisitive nature to challenge ideas and provide new innovative solutions


Location:

West Yorkshire (Near Leeds)

Also mix of office and remote work available.


Remuneration:

The successful Bid Manager will receive:

*£45,000 - £60,000 Basic (Dependent on experience)
