Video Interview Tips
Below are some tips to help you prepare for Video Interviews which are becoming increasing popular as part of employers selection process.
How to Prepare
- Still Dress formal, suit and tie etc, treat it the same as a face to face interview and create a good first impression. Unless specifically notified of a different company culture.
- Create a quiet and tidy setting / background, free of distractions.
- Get familiar with online meeting software such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Skype. You can find tutorials for these on YouTube.
- Practise with a relative / friend to get used to the camera and software set up.
- If possible, use an ethernet cable rather than wifi internet to improve the connection.
- Test your computer microphone, speakers and webcam are working.
- Ensure the interviewer has a copy of your CV and Project Portfolio prior to the online meeting.
- Prepare questions as you would a normal interview.
- Print out any research on the company as a point of reference.
- Have a note pad and pen ready to use.
- Have a copy of your CV to hand to talk through.
- Minor point, but it is worth keeping a drink nearby, but out the way of your paperwork.
- Body language – try to avoid slouching and moving too much.
